Three of them can be found in the Pratt Museum Botanical Garden. Come and learn from our Botanical Garden crew about their unique lifeways\, and how to propagate them at home. Sundews even thrive as houseplants\, and can keep you company through the long Alaskan winter! We will explore seed collection and saving\, propagation by leaf cutting\, and habitat requirements. \nThis workshop is outdoors and designed for adults\, older teens are welcome too! DESCRIPTION:GRASPING THE NETTLE: A TWO DAY FIBER WORKSHOP \nSunday\, August 17 & Monday\, August 18 | 3-5:30PM \n$80 per person/$70 per Museum Member \nLearn ways of working with Nettle as a fiber plant with local multi-media artist and fiber explorer Carla Klinker. Nettle has been used worldwide for generations as a fiber source for textiles. In this two-part class\, learn about its history and then get your hands on the raw material. Participants will harvest and process the plant to create cordage to take home. \nCarla will introduce a variety of ways of working with nettle fiber\, including harvesting times and techniques\, making cordage\, and integrating nettle thread into practical and artistic projects.
