SUMMARY:Volunteer at the Pratt
DESCRIPTION:We have multiple volunteer opportunities at the Pratt this summer and fall for all interests! \nIf you are interested in greeting guests and working inside of the museum\, you might want to consider working at our front desk.  We are always looking for volunteers to work Thursday and Friday.  This is an unpaid position for Thursday and Friday.  If you would like to work on Saturdays\, this is a paid position that we are currently hiring for. Email Laura Kelley for more information at lkelley@prattmuseum.org. \nFor those of you who would rather spend your time outside\, volunteer with our Botanical Garden Team! \n\nVolunteer days will be held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month\, from 1-5 pm.  You can drop by for any length of time in that window and we will have a variety of available tasks\, ranging from light weeding to heavy hauling – pick your own adventure! \nThe dates you can volunteer are: \n\nJune 16 (partnering with Homer Soil and Water Conservation District (HSWCD) as a community “weed-pull”)\nJuly 21\nAugust 18\n\nSeptember 15 \nContact Yarrow Hinnant for more details at trailhealer@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Duty Free: Virtual Film Screening and Live Q&A with Sian-Pierre and his Mother
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a virtual screening of Duty Free in the comfort of your home. You will have 48 hours to watch the film on your own time. Then\, on Sunday\, May 16th you can join us for a live\, 30 minute Q&A. \nAfter a 75-year-old immigrant mother gets fired from her job\, her son takes her on an adventure to help her reclaim her life. As she struggles to find work\, he documents a journey that uncovers the economic insecurity shaping not only her future but that of an entire generation. Through emotional and compelling storytelling\, Duty Free aims to not only increase the visibility of older folks but to re-characterize this generation for who they really are: human\, capable\, productive\, useful\, beautiful\, and important. The feature-length documentary has been called “touching” and “poignant” by both CBS News and The Hollywood Reporter. \nLearn more here:\nhttps://www.dutyfreefilm.com \n\nAfter the screening\, join us for an exclusive Live Q&A with Duty Free Director Sian-Pierre and his mother and film protagonist\, Rebecca Danigelis. Holly Atkins\, Communications Manager at the Pratt will moderate the discussion. Sian-Pierre and Rebecca will explore the themes from the film\, where their journey has led them\, and solutions to ensure older generations are both cared for and respected within today’s society.\n\nSian-Pierre Regis is a Film Independent Documentary Fellow and Firelight Media Fellow. He has been a contributor for CNN/HLN and MTV\, covering stories of youth political activism and pop culture. Duty Free is his feature-length documentary debut. \n\nEmail Holly Atkins to join\, hatkins@prattmuseum.org or RSVP via Eventbrite.
